Wedding videographer – Why should you hire one?

September 3, 2021

Let’s talk about the importance of hiring a wedding videographer.

All right! I’m excited to share my thoughts on this subject because I myself only learned how important a wedding videographer is in the past few years. In fact, I stumbled across my older sister’s film last night while I was going through my computer and watched the entire thing. It was so nice to hear my grandfather’s speech (he’s still alive and healthy!!) and it blows my mind how different everything was in that video from 6 years ago. I got to see so many faces in the film that I haven’t seen since, but I’m able to see how happy we all were at that time to celebrate my sister and brother-in-law. 🥲

Anyhoo, let me preface everything else by saying this: I get it. Weddings can be hella expensive. An amazing photographer already -easily- costs upwards of $3000. The venue is expensive (we can talk about this in another post 🙃). Flowers are expensive. Food is expensive. Why on earth should you add another $3000 for an amazing to your list of expenses of wedding planning? That’s a loaded question. But hey! That’s what I’m here for.

I’m going to assume you already know why photographers are important, but here’s a few reasons why videographers are just as important, if not more!

  1. A photo is worth a thousand words, but you can actually hear and feel words spoken in a film.
    • I want you to let that sink in. Imagine hearing your partners voice tremble with emotion as they’re reading the letter you wrote to them or their letter to you. Imagine it’s YEARS down the road and you want to hear your late grandfather’s voice and he happened to give one of the most heartfelt speeches about you in your wedding film. I could go on and on.
    • The point is that while photos can be powerful, there’s something profound about getting to reliving that exact moment through film.
  2. I just want to reiterate how special audio can be. It can, and usually does, take your wedding film to another level. Reception photos are beautiful and capture a lot of smiling faces, but why were they smiling or laughing? Maybe the best man shared a hilarious story about the couple and there’s no way to relive that moment through just a photo. I think the intro to E + D’s film is a prime example. I love how you can feel her emotions as she’s getting ready to read her letter.
  3. So many couples say that their wedding days were a complete blur to them and that’s so often the case! Photographers and videographers do our best to capture as many important details to you as we can. Videographers capture so many moments you don’t get to see. What’s going on while you’re looking into your lover’s eyes at the altar? Are your family members crying for you through pure happiness? You get to relive your big day in a completely different way when you hire a videographer.
  4. Memories fade over time. You may remember things a little differently from how they happened. When you hire a wedding videographer, you’re really investing in a family heirloom. You’re creating a legacy that started on the day you two chose to get married and you’ll be able to share that with your future children, their children, and so on.

I would absolutely LOVE to see a film about how my mom and dad got married, not to mention my grandparents. How cool would that be? V-E-R-Y C-O-O-L.

If you’re having a traditional wedding, you’re more than likely inviting all of your close friends and family members. How many times in your life do you think you’ll be able to get everyone together in one place like that? Unfortunately, it’s likely to be very few. Having everyone in your wedding film is an amazing gift to yourselves in itself!
  5. Maybe you decided to elope to have an immensely more intimate experience (because there are SO many awesome reasons to take this route), but are a little sad that you couldn’t invite everyone you wanted. A wedding videographer can allow the people who couldn’t make it experience all of the emotions from your day in a completely different way that photos cannot.
  6. You can remind yourself why you love your partner. Look. Relationships are not always filled with sunshine and rainbows. I wish. For me personally, rewatching your wedding film by yourself or with your partner, is one of the best ways to uplift your mood and feed your soul love, especially when you might ever have doubts about your marriage.

Your wedding day is one of the happiest and best days of your lives and your wedding film should reflect that. Rewatch your film to remember how you felt whenever you said, “I do.”, to your partner. Let all of your emotions flood back to that day.

Bumps in the road are inevitable, but it’s really nice to have something to remind you why you chose the partner you did.

I have so much fun making each wedding film because they’re all different just as they should be. You and your partner have a love and story like no other so it’s only right that I do what I can to reflect your relationship.

Now that you know how important hiring a wedding videographer is, the next step is to naturally start looking for one! But, Jason, how do you go about finding the right videographer?

We’ll dive into that topic in another blog post! ☺️
